Annual Award to the RAF
The Worshipful Company of Plumbers (WCoP) offers the RAF an annual prize for the ‘best Aeronautical Hydraulic Apprentice’. This is interpreted by RAF No 1 School of Technical Training (No1 SofTT) at RAF Cosford as being the best trainee off the Mechanical phase of the Further Training (Mechanical) course, who also demonstrates the highest RISE (respect, integrity, service and excellence) standards and personal qualities. Senior Aircraftman (Technician) Steven Winship, now stationed at RAF Marham, was identified as the best trainee of his year. His prize comprised of a medal, certificate, cheque for £200 and an invitation to be made a Freeman of the WCoP.
A party from the WCoP, led by the Master, Mr David Hamilton, and accompanied by the Clerk, Lt Col Antony Paterson-Fox and the Clerk Designate, Air Commodore Paul Nash OBE, visited RAF Cosford on 06 July 2010 to present the prize to SAC Tech Winship.
In addition to the prize presentation in the Officers’ Mess, the visitors took the opportunity to visit the RAF Museum Cosford and tour the Mechanical Training Flight within the No1 SofTT at RAF Cosford. The Master expressed delight with the visit and said:
“It was a great privilege to grant the award to SAC Tech Steven Winship. It acknowledges excellence in the hydraulics phase of the mechanical technician courses. SAC Tech Winship has been selected by his instructors as the best trainee of 2009.
Overall, the visit was wonderful. I was taken with the enthusiasm and quality of the people I have met and the standard of training delivered. I also enjoyed the opportunity to chat to some of the trainees. This was a most memorable and enjoyable day.”
