DEFENCE COLLEGE OF LOGISTICS AND PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION RAF CRANWELL
The Defence College of Logistics and Personnel Administration (DCLPA) is one of the federated Defence training establishments (FDTEs). The College comprises 7 schools, spread across 15 military sites. The Defence Logistic School is one on the College’s schools and within it are the RAF Supply and Movements Training Wing (SMTW). Headquartered at RAF Halton, SMTW delivers supply, movements and logistic management training from sites at Brize Norton, Cranwell, Deepcut and Halton. SMTW at RAF College Cranwell comprises the Logistics Management Training Squadron (LMTS), which delivers Phase 3 Defence Logistics Management Education for Military, Civil Service and Defence Contractor customers.
LMTS Courses
Elements of LMTS' educative programmes are conducted at a range of venues across Defence including MOD Main Building, MOD Abbeywood, PJHQ Northwood and HQ Air Command. LMTS enjoys close academic links with the University of Lincoln and its' courses are afforded accreditation from various professional Chartered Institutes including; the Chartered Institute of Supply and Purchasing (CIPS), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation (CILT) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Defence Logistics Management Course (DLMC)
Sponsored by the Director of the Joint Support Chain, the DLMC aims to provide Defence Logisticians and others with an overview of Defence Logistics, the contributing organisations and their impact upon operational capability. The course explains the key elements of: Defence Logistics Strategy; Policy and Processes; End-to-End and Through-Life management.
DLMC is a residential course undertaken at RAF College Cranwell over 4 days. 3 courses are undertaken each year. The DLMC is principally aimed at broadening logisticians beyond their own functional expertise, at Band D/C / OF1/2/3 level. WO1/2’s and Defence contractor/partners may also apply.
Defence Logistics Staff Course (DLSC)
The DLSC is an educative Modular Masters level programme, sponsored by the Director of the Joint Support Chain, and operates in conjunction with the University of Lincoln. DLSC aims:
· To contribute more widely and effectively in Defence Logistics appointments.
· To be better prepared to compete for and win at competition, posts at OF5 level and above.
· To improve understanding/appreciation of the Support Chain and of commercial best practice.
A minimum of two cohorts will be selected each year to attend 8 one-week residential modules at RAF College Cranwell separated by around 8 weeks. A Cohort is typically conducted over an 18-20 month period. Students who pass all academic papers are awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management with the opportunity to undertake a final dissertation for the award of an MSc in Logistics Management.
The DLSC is intended for SO2 or equivalent applicants from: RN; Army; RM; RAF; Civil-Servant logisticians, Band C2 and above; MOD contractors at the discretion of the Course Sponsor. Applications from Officers of SO1 and senior SO3 rank are also eligible.
SO2 Forward Commanders’ PET Course (FCC)
The FCC is a 2½day (for SO1 delegates) or 3½ (for SO2 delegates) HQ AIR sponsored course aimed at preparing RAF SO1/SO2 Engineer (AS/CE) and Logistics Officers for Wing and Sqn command appointments on Royal Air Force Main Operating Bases and Formed Units. It is strongly recommended that delegates attend the course in advance of commencing a Forward command posting, or within the first 3 months of commencing such an appointment. The FCC covers a range of topics to provide an update on issues, initiatives and policies which may impact on the delegates’ future areas of responsibility within the Forward Command domain.
A4 Intermediate Managers’ Course (A4-IMC)
The A4-IMC is a 12-day course aimed at RAF Engineer (AS and CE) and Logistics SO3s employed within all areas of Defence Logistics. Conducted 4 times each year, the A4-IMC provides an excellent professional mid-life update for officers at the 3-5 years point and bridges the gap between Engineer / Logistics Officer Training and the Defence Logistics Staff Course. The A4-IMC is residential and is delivered predominantly at RAF College Cranwell and incorporates various external visits. Officers from other Branches and WO / SNCOs may also apply.
