Training
Our next umpires and scorers training course will be held from 17 - 21 Oct 2011 at RAF Halton. If you would like further details about the course, or are interested in learning more about becoming an umpire or a scorer, please contact Flight Sergeant Andy Rutter, who is the service point of contact for our Training Officer, Mr Tom Kane. You will need to submit an application form for an RAF Sports Officials course, which may be downloaded here.
Tom is a former serving member who was a respected umpire in both the RAF and in civilian cricket in Shropshire and the West Midlands until hearing loss forced his retirement from active umpiring. He is still busy however as an umpire instructor and has kindly volunteered to continue as our Association Training Officer. Tom is one of only two instructors in the services' associations qualified to instruct to ECB Level 2 standard. He has been running our training courses, ably assisted by Damon, for several years now and has achieved an excellent exam pass rate from his students.
Our scorer instructor is Sqn Ldr (Ret'd) Clive Jones who, as well as being a qualified scorer, is also a qualified and experienced umpire. Although recently retired from the RAF, Clive hopes to continue to provide training for new scorers and is also able to offer correspondence training for those who are unable to attend our course. Damon will be able to put you in touch with Clive if you would prefer this latter option.
The Laws of Cricket
The MCC is the sole authority for drawing up the Laws of Cricket and also holds the world copyright to the Laws. The Laws are revised occasionally and the latest version of the Laws was produced in 2010. Click here for a link to the Laws pages on the Lord's website, where you will find all the 42 Laws together with some explanatory notes.
