PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The Station Gymnasium is situated in North Hangar (Building 108). The facility is manned by the Physical Education Flight who are able to give you advice on all physical training and adventurous training matters.

Sport is important on the Station with a regular competition for the CO’s Cup being keenly contested. The Station enters teams for as many Inter Station competitions as possible. We will gladly put you in touch with the Officer in Charge of any of the sports you are interested in.

The Gymnasium has an indoor running track, four badminton courts, 5 volleyball courts, a netball court, indoor tennis court, basketball and a five-a-side soccer courts. Additionally a state of the art indoor climbing wall is available to use and the climbing club provides opportunities to experts and novices alike.

Adjoining the main sports hall you have the fitness suite which consists of a resistance equipment room, a fixed station weights room and an aerobic room with the latest equipment from Techno-Gym, Life-Fitness and Concept Rowers. It is the envy of many a service unit and civilian gyms.

To complement the modern equipment, instructor led circuit training classes take place on Tuesday & Thursdays from 1230 – 1330hrs. Spinning Classes are held at the same time on Monday & Wednesday.

Other facilities on Station include 2 squash courts, an all weather Astroturf pitch and an outdoor basketball court. All of these facilities can be booked through the PEd staff. The sports store is able to support a complete range of activities with equipment available to borrow for most sports every weekday between 0900-1100hrs, on a 48-hour loan basis.

All classes and facilities are free to service personnel and their dependants.

Access to the facilities is via a ‘key fob’ system. A £10 returnable deposit is to be paid at accounts (Mon/Wed 0930-1130hrs) Just bring your receipt to the gym induction which takes place on Mondays at 1200hrs.

All the facilities are available 24 hours a day and manned by an informed and helpful staff during normal working hours. The PEd Flight looks forward to seeing you and are ready to offer help and advice, just come and take a look.
