Medical Services

MEDICAL SERVICES

RAF Digby personnel are catered for at the Regional Heath Centre at Cranwell. They offer a full general practice service to all who are registered with them. For use by only Service personnel routinely and in emergencies. Civilian MOD staff will be seen only in emergencies. Unfortunately, family members of Service personnel are not seen at the Regional Heath Centre and they should be registered with one of the local NHS practices.

These can be made on the telephone or in person. If you are unable to make an appointment, please ring and cancel it so somebody else can be seen.

These numbers can be reached from any civilian telephone by prefixing with 01400 26.The Regional Heath Centre is open 0800-1700 Monday to Friday.

Urgent Appointments

If you need to see a doctor urgently during the day, please ring the Regional Health Centre and they will offer you an appointment. If a doctor is unavailable you may be seen by a Medic. They will make the necessary arrangements for your treatment.

In a life-threatening emergency DO NOT PANIC. Call for help and ask someone to ring 999 on a civilian telephone, then call for the Duty Medical Officer by telephoning the switchboard (or 222 on a service telephone).

THE HEALTH CARE TEAM & CLINICS

The Doctor

There is a Doctors clinic held everyday. Please telephone to make an appointment. If you have a particularly complex problem you wish to discuss please make a double appointment.

The Practice Manager

The Practice Manager ensures the smooth day to day running of the practice and is also responsible for administration and organisation. If you are not happy with the service provided or if you wish to offer suggestions they will be happy to see you. Please ring and arrange a time.

The Midwife

The Midwife is available at RAF Cranwell appointments can be booked via the Medical Centre reception on 95751 7375.

Service Medicals

A wide range of medicals are carried out at the Regional Health Centre, Cranwell. These will be performed by the Nurse or the Doctor depending on the level of medical needed. On the day of your medical you will be required to undertake some tests prior to being seen by the Practitioner e.g: hearing, eyesight, urine.

Inoculations and Immunisations

Inoculations can be booked through the Medical Centre reception. If known, please indicate what inoculations you require. Some inoculations take several weeks to complete so please book well in advance.

Well Woman (smear) clinic

You should have a smear every three years until the age of 55. We will send you a recall letter to remind you when your next one is due. If you are not sure when your last smear was, please ring and we will check your records. Please telephone to book an appointment with the Practice Nurse. The result will take about four weeks to come back, and we will write and let you know the result. If you have not heard anything after a month please ring and we will look into the delay.

Family Planning Services

A Family Planning and Cervical Smear Service is offered by our Nurse Practitioner, though ladies can attend the local Family Planning Clinics in Sleaford. Their telephone Number can be found in the yellow pages.

Prescriptions

We will issue computerised prescriptions that are printed in the dispensary. Please present to reception who will arrange for your prescription to be made up. Repeat prescriptions are available if you are on regular medication. When you are running low please return your slip or contact the Medical Centre 48hrs in advance so the prescription can be made up for you
