ROAD SAFETY

RAF Digby is a small Unit with a lot of vehicular movement within its confines. The Station Speed limit is 20 mph unless otherwise stated. Care must be taken when driving around the Married Quarter site, as a lot of children play in the area. The RAF Police enforce the speed limits and operate a Speed Detection device on all camp roads; without prior notification. If you are caught speeding you may be issued a Vehicle Offence Ticket or have disciplinary action taken against you. Each

Vehicle Offence Ticket issued is registered with the Passes and Permits Office at the Vehicle Reception Centre (VRC) and if you accumulate 12 points in one year (3 points or more per Offence Ticket) you will be banned from keeping or driving a vehicle on the Unit for a period of 28 days.

Driving when under the influence of drink or drugs places the safety of all personnel serving or visiting RAF Digby at risk of death or injury. The RAFP are authorised to administer preliminary alcohol and drug tests to any Service personnel who they reasonably suspect of driving a motor vehicle, within the confines of the Unit, when in excess of the UK prescribed alcohol limit, or when suspected of impaired driving due to the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any Service person who fails any preliminary tests will be arrested by the RAFP and required to provide, either, specimens of breath in an evidential breath testing device or a specimen of blood or urine. These procedures follow UK law and civilian Police practice and procedures. Disciplinary action will be taken against all personnel who drive in excess of the UK prescribed alcohol limit, or when impaired through drink or drugs, or who refuse to submit to preliminary tests, or to provide specimens, when lawfully requested of them by the RAFP. The message is simple: DO NOT DRIVE IF IMPAIRED THROUGH DRINK OR DRUGS.

REGISTRATION OF PRIVATE MOTOR VEHICLES

All personnel and their dependants who use a private motor vehicle at RAF Digby are to register the vehicle with Passes and Permits Office located at the VRC, which is open Monday to Thursday 0730 hrs – 1230 hrs and 1330 hrs – 1600 hrs and Friday 0730 hrs – 1230 hrs and 1330 hrs to 1500 hrs. You are required to produce all vehicle documentation on registering any vehicle on the Unit. Should you receive a Vehicle Offence Ticket, you are to produce all vehicle documents at the RAF Police Flt within 7 days of receiving your ticket. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary action taken against you. The vehicle pass is to be displayed in a prominent position in the front of the vehicle AT ALL TIMES when within the confines of the Unit, failure to do so may result in a Vehicle Offence Ticket being issued. Each Vehicle pass has a series of letter printed on them, which correspond to the Car Parks on the Unit. Failure to park in the corresponding car park may result in a Vehicle Offence Ticket being issued. On posting from the Unit, change of vehicle, or change of ownership of the vehicle, the vehicle pass is to be returned to Passes and Permits. Owners and drivers of vehicles on the Unit are to comply with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act at all times. Advice on these matters can be obtained from Passes and Permits or RAF Police (Ext 7608/7426/7588).
