Adastral Golfing Society
The Adastral Golfing Society (AGS) was formed in 1920, as the Air Ministry Golfing Society, to give both Service and civilian personnel working in London the opportunity to meet socially and where better than on a golf course. In 1922, officers of the Committee included Father of the RAF, ACM Sir Hugh Trenchard. With the exception of WW2, the AGS has held 3 meetings every year, Spring, Summer and Autumn and last year held a special 90th Anniversary meeting at the same golf club and day of the original meeting. Membership has always been open to retired Service and civilian personnel and is so today. Thus a day's golf with the AGS gives an opportunity to meet up with people one used to work with. Our meetings tend to be very friendly and pairings are usually made to order.
Today there about 65 members of the Society and most of them try to play in one meeting each year. The annual subscription is £6 but most of our trophies date back to the early 1920's which have been won by some notable names. The rules and objectives of the Society have stayed the same, but since most of the MOD functions are performed outside London, membership is open to anyone working in a MOD role. In particular any member of the RAF High Wycombe GS, with whom there are very strong links, is very welcome to join.
