Joint Service Golf Coaching Course

Joint Service Golf Skills Training Weeks, 2012-2013

The Army golf training courses have been extended to encompass all 3 Services and ex-Service personnel.

Images_ProJAm logo 150x162 There are 3 levels of course: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. No golf experience is required to enrol on the Basic course but, as a general rule of thumb, handicaps of 22 or below and 18 or below are required for the Intermediate and Advanced courses, respectively. The Basic and Intermediate courses are 5-days, running from Monday to Friday and the Advanced course is Tuesday to Thursday, with optional golf on Friday. Joint Service golf training courses are held at Silverstone GC in Northamptonshre.

Whilst the courses are sponsored by the Army School of Physical Training (ASPT), they are delivered by a company called PROJAM, whose website provides the points of contact for further information and, from the pull-down menu within the webpages for the individual courses, the breakdown of the week's activities. The courses are open to both serving and ex-military personnel.

2012/13 COURSE DATES:

Course dates are shown on PROJAM's website.

APPLICATION:

The rather antiquated ASPT bidding/application processing of last year has been replaced by a simple on-line version for 2012, dealing directly with PROJAM. Both Serving and ex-military personnel need only complete the on-line form. During the process of being allocated a place on the course, participants will be offered military accommodation at Bicester. The on-line applications should be made via private internet access rather than via an MOD network. Once your application has been received and verified, you will receive an email informing you that you have been allocated a provisional place on the course and you will receive your Joining Instructions electronically. All that's left to do then is pay your deposit and turn up on the day!

DUTY STATUS:

Attendance on the course is deemed Duty and therefore personnel may claim Travel & Subsistence (T&S) costs through their own UIN (with prior approval of the UIN Budget Holder). Specifically, the travel element of T&S can be claimed using the course Joining Instruction (which will include all participants' names) as the travel authority reference in JPA. Military accommodation will be provided at Bicester and therefore there will be no element of subsistence claimable.

COST OF COURSES:

2011 prices have been maintained into 2012 and the courses vary in cost, ranging from £145 for the Basic course, £177.50 for the Intermediate course and £165 for the Advanced course. This tuition fee is unable to be paid from Unit funds. However, as a member of the RAFGA Membership Scheme, application can be made for a coaching subsidy to Sqn Ldr Andy Wilson (0306 79 80056). Many Station PEd Flts also have access to funding for attendance on such courses as these, so give the PEd Flt a call.....
