Lyneham Wins Inaugural RAF President's Trophy, 27 Aug 09

The inaugural President's Trophy, which is aimed at the RAF's higher handicap golfers and specifically excludes single-figure handicaps, was fiercely competed at Brampton Park GC on 27 Aug 09. The President's Trophy traces its history back to the PTC Commander's Cup and provides access to competitive golf for the RAF's developing higher handicap golfers.

A healthy entry of 17 RAF station teams entered the 2 round stableford event, with each team comprising a player in the each of the 10-15, 16-20 and 21-24 handicap brackets, with 5 scores from the teams' 6 rounds counting, leaving little or no room for mistakes or passengers. The close-run event was eventually won by RAF Lyneham who pipped RAF Odiham by a single point on a bright and breezy day over the well-prepared and firm-running Brampton Park course which brought water into play on virtually every hole.

Event organiser, Wg Cdr Ian Robinson, was pleased to host representatives from RAFGA sponsors, Steria and Fujitsu, who played a round of golf and received an extended golf lesson from Club Pro and RAFGA Coach, Alisdair Currie. We once again extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors for their continuing invaluable support.
