Centenary Youth Rugby Tournament
In March 2013 RAF Halton will hold a Junior Rugby Festival with a difference to celebrate the centenary of flying operations from the base.
Running from the 1st – 3rd March 2013 the tournament is open to clubs from all around the UK with separate competitions for each junior age group (i.e. under 13s,14s,15s,16s) in a traditional format.
If this still sounds like a normally Rugby tournament you wouldn't be wrong, but the difference is to do with celebrating 100 years of flying at RAF Halton and to recognise the links the Station has to rugby. So when the players aren't on the field they can try out some military activities, from leadership tasks, to shooting rifles and even some flying (subject to weather!).
Attendance is anticipated to be high so initially clubs will be restricted to fielding one team per age group. Individual games will be played according to the RFU rules and regulations and all players must be either RFU registered or part of an ESRFU recognised school team.
The event is self-financing and costs will be kept as low as possible. The entry fee is £35 and this covers administrative costs, medals for those taking part and the Cup, Shield and Bowl trophies for winning teams. Any profits remaining will be donated to charity.
