SAC Kurt Gough (1 Sqn RAF Regt, Honington) stole the show as he triumphed in his first ever Inter Service Judo championships in the lightweight development category. Finishing top of his pool of four, ‘Goughy’ faced Sqn and team mate SAC ‘Tee Bag’ Tee in the semi-final. A nasty collision resulted in Tee Bag having to withdraw through injury to place Goughy in the final against a blue belt RM Major.

Last week saw the RAF Festival of Judo, held at our Home for Sport, RAF Cosford. The intent was to create an event not just for competition, but with training sessions for novices, and coaching and officials courses, prior to the main contest on the Thursday. Lots of new faces turned up, and were astonished by the presence of World Champion Craig Fallon for an impromptu teaching session.

CORNWALL’S rising judo star Lewis Keeble has won a call up to the senior World Cup just days after winning a bronze medal at the Junior European Championships.
Keeble’s rapid promotion to Great Britain’s senior squad in Rome next month follows the RAF regimental gunner’s impressive performance in clinching third place at the first time of asking, at the junior Euros in Bulgaria.
Olympic hopeful Keeble is believed to be the first GB judo player to win a medal of any description in the -66kg body weight category for over 10 years.
