Sergeant Matthew Gilbank, 37 from Carterton in Oxfordshire joined the RAF as an Aircraft Technician (Mechanical) in 1990. Matthew was obviously destined to become involved with judo since doing it for 8 months when he was 7 years old! Clearly, when he joined the RAF, the draw was too much and he felt compelled to try again. A green belt at present, Matthew competed in the RAF Championships in 1992 and 1993, where he won a team gold and individual silver and bronze. Matthew currently works at RAF Brize Norton and aims to get his judo 1st Dan one day.
