71 Engineer Regiment was officially formed on 01 July 1999; however, there has been a Royal Engineer presence at RAF Leuchars for over 120 years.

The Regiment comprises of the following:
· The Regimental Headquarters, Regimental Headquarters Troop and Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Light Aid Detachment at RAF Leuchars
· 102 (Clyde) Field Squadron (Air Support) (Volunteers) based in Paisley
· 124 Field Squadron (Air Support) (Volunteers) based in Cumbernauld
· 236 Field Squadron (Air Support) (Volunteers) based in Elgin
· 10 (Orkney) Field Troop Royal Engineers (Volunteers) based in Kirkwall
· 11 Combat Support Troop based at RAF Leuchars

The Regiment offers training for the following trades:
