Base Support

Base Support Wing is responsible for a broad range of support functions vital to the operational output of this major front line Station. The Wing comprises of 5 Squadrons: Personnel Management Squadron, Station Services Squadron, Force Development Squadron, Plans & Finance Squadron, Catering & Accommodation Services. Medical, dental, padre, welfare services, health and safety and environmental protection responsibilities also form part of the Wing.

Personnel Management Squadron

General Duties Flight is part of Personnel Management Squadron and their primary responsible for discipline and ceremonial matters on the Station. The Station Warrant Officer (SWO) is the key figure in the disciplinary chain of command.

Station Services Squadron

Station Services Flight (SSS) is responsible for the maintenance and management of the buildings and infrastructure at RAF Leuchars.

Force Development Squadron

Force Development Squadron has responsibilities for the production, maintenance and reporting of the Commander’s Plan, the document that states the outputs and performance indicators for each section within the Station. Along with this the Squadron co-ordinates the Station’s business development plans, maximising the use of the Station’s facilities and for working level agreements with those whom Leuchars has a working relationship.

Physical Education Flight and the Training/Learning Centre are also part of Force Development Squadron.

Catering and Accommodation Services

Catering and Accommodation Services is the largest Flight within the Base Support Wing. The Catering Flight is an integral part of the ‘partnering relationship’ involving ESS, part of the Compass Group, to operate the Catering, Retail, Leisure and food supply to all of the personnel based at RAF Leuchars.

Plans and Finance Squadron

Plans and Finance comprises of Budgets, Accounts Flt and the Travel Cell.

The Budget Manager is responsible for provision of advice and guidance to ensure the Station Commander’s delegated budget is managed in accordance with rules on propriety and regularity and that an appropriate level of financial scrutiny and control is maintained. The Budgets Office provides financial support to Cost Centre and Commodity Managers and is responsible for the provision of monthly budget reports to both the Station Commander and HQ 1 Group and production of the annual Planning Round requirements.

Accounts Flight provides accounting services including advice and guidance, cashiering, bill payment and recovery for both Public and Non-Public monies. It is also responsible for audit of expenses claims.

The Travel Cell costs, organises and books all journeys relating to detached duty and can assist in the organisation of entitled ‘Get You Home@ and flights/rail for posting journeys.

Health and Safety

Health and Safety is part of the Base Support Wing in their role of providing advice to Management, Employees, Safety Representatives and Advisors on matters affecting the Safety, Health and Welfare of all who may enter the Station.

Engagement & Media Team

The Engagement & Media Team coordinates RAF Leuchars’ public relations activities. The team is the first point of contact for all enquiries from the media and public regarding the Station, its Squadrons and operations. We aim to foster and enhance the strong links RAF Leuchars has with the local community in Fife and across Scotland.

Community Development Officer

Community Development Officer (CDO) is also part of Base Support Squadron whose main task is to ensure that both serving personnel and their families enjoy all the support and facilities they are entitled to. The CDO strives to ensure that the Station promotes a strong sense of community and general well-being. Alongside this role, the CDO advises the Station on current legislation, good practises and policies
