Physical Education Flight

PHYSICAL EDUCATION FLIGHT

The Gymnasium at RAF Linton-on-Ouse is situated in No 2 Hangar. It has extensive facilities, including a 5-a-side football pitch, volleyball and basketball court, 6 badminton courts, a practice cricket net, Golf driving net, an aerobic area and a weights bay area. There are rugby, football and cricket pitches, 2 squash and 5 tennis courts. Booking for all these facilities are to be made through the PEd Flt with the exception of the squash courts; booking sheets for these are found within the courts themselves. Within the gymnasium there is a Health Suite containing a sauna and solarium for general use. A charge of £1 is charged for 20 minutes use of the solarium.

The Flt is manned from:

0800 - 1815 hrs    Mon & Wed

0800 -1700 hrs    Tues & Thurs

0800 - 15.30 hrs   Fri

All personnel must attend a Health and Safety brief before they can use the facilities. These can be booked through the PEd Flt on Ext 7286 and are available during working hours at your convenience.

Sports equipment is available to be booked out on a 24-hour loan basis from the Sport Store. It is requested that this equipment be returned promptly so that others may also benefit from its use. The Expedition Store has a stock of adventure training equipment: tents, stoves, sleeping bags, rucksacks etc. This equipment may only be issued to Service personnel and is only for recognised expeditions.  Expedition grants and assistance in planning is available, for these expeditions, through the PEd Flt.

Adventurous Training

Aim

AT is an essential part of tri-service training. It complements individual and collective training by contributing towards the development of leadership, interdependency, physical courage and mental robustness. When faced with the tangible risk these qualities are honed while undertaking Adventurous Training.

How To Get Involved

The PEd Flt have access to all areas of Adventurous Training through JSP 419, as well as running many major and minor expeds each year. If anyone is interested please contact or pop in to the PEd Flt for further details.

What We Do

Over the past twelve months RAF Linton-on-Ouse PEd Flt has run two major expeds to Italy and Canada along with countless minor expeds including activities such as mountain biking, walking, white-water rafting and climbing to name a few. If any personnel have any passions or ideas regarding other areas of Adventurous Training please do not hesitate to bring these ideas forward

As part of Force Development Training (FDT) we run regular 1-day expeditions including activities such as:

  • Climbing (Indoor/Outdoor)
  • Hill Walking / Trekking
  • Mountain Biking
  • White Water Rafting
  • Kayaking / Canoeing

As well as these we also encourage and support expeditions to more exotic climates, such as:

  • Trekking in the Grand Canyon
  • Skiing in Austria
  • Multi Activity Expedition in Morzine, France

We also actively promote participation in Joint Service Adventurous Training Courses, such as:

  • Mountaineering
  • Kayaking / Canoeing
  • Parachuting
  • Sailing
  • Hang Gliding
