2622 (Highland) Squadron

The Regular RAF Regiment is in the business of Force Protection and 2622 (Highland) Squadron plays an important and vital part in that role providing sustainment capability to the Regular Regiment Field Squadrons.

2622 (Highland) Squadron is based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray and recruits from area in excess of 100 miles from the Base. Our part-time Gunners come from all walks of life, including Students, Teachers, Tradesmen, Labourers, retail workers, Office personnel, Self employed, unemployed, Ex RAF, Ex Royal Navy and Ex Army both Regular and TA.

2622 Highland Squadron is a highly respected unit both within the local community and further a field. Effective Enjoyable and Realistic training combined with experienced training staff and a high sense of moral and camaraderie within its Ranks is the key to the continued success of the Highland Squadron.

Squadron training encourages initiative, teamwork and resourcefulness. It motivates people to find their own answers to a variety of problems and builds confidence, maturity and adaptability. Squadron members learn to work efficiently together and to respect ability in others.

Many of our personnel have been to America, Cyprus, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Gibraltar, the Gulf, Afghanistan, and all over the UK.

Those who progress through the application process can look forward to joining a first class team and start their military training with 2-3 weekends of General Service Knowledge, physical training, Drill and basically getting to know a bit about the Squadron and the military prior to attending one of the initial 2- week Basic Recruit Training (BRT) Courses conducted at RAF Halton, London. Ex Regular Service personnel may not have to attend the Basic Course at Halton, but this will be dependant on past service and discharge date.

Following a BRT Course you would then attend 2622 (Highland) Squadron on a monthly basis for continuation training where you will learn many new skills and have the opportunity to participate in many other Squadron activities such as Shooting and Military skills competitions both in the UK and Abroad, Adventure Training, Formal Parades and also get involved with the social side of being a Gunner in the Highland Squadron.

Being a Reservist gives you access to many sporting and leisure activity clubs within the RAF and the excellent facilities at RAF Lossiemouth include a modern Gymnasium, Squash courts, modern Bar/ Lounge etc. Those who live some distance away often stay overnight in our accommodation facility during a Training weekend although this is not mandatory.

Becoming a Reservist is a great opportunity to be part of the Military while keeping your civilian role. Many of our Gunners joined in their 20s and 40s just to do something different and experience a challenge, while some of our younger members have gone on to become Regulars in the RAF, the Army and the Royal Marines after spending a year or two in the Squadron. A large number of those who joined the Regular service achieved best Recruit on their respective Regular Training Course.
