Lossiemouth
Lossiemouth is a popular holiday resort with extensive stretches of sandy beach on either side of the town which provide safe bathing. It is perhaps best known for being the birthplace of the first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald. As well as having a championship golf course Lossiemouth can boast excellent sailing and angling facilities. There are shops to cover basic requirements.
Elgin
The Royal Burgh and market city of Elgin, situated 6 miles south of Lossiemouth, houses the Moray Council Headquarters. It is best known for its ruined cathedral of 1224, which is one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in Scotland. Elgin’s long history includes connections with Bonnie Prince Charlie, Dr Johnson and Boswell. Like most county towns, Elgin has many fine amenities, which include the Library, a Leisure Centre with swimming pool/ice rink, and in Cooper Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Scotland. Set amongst mature trees, surrounded by the River Lossie and having a lovely boating pond, it provides relaxation and entertainment for young and old. Elgin is the main shopping centre for the area: there are 2 large 24hr supermarkets for the weekly shopping trip and an extensive retail park with all the usual major outlets.
Inverness & Aberdeen
Inverness is 43 miles west and Aberdeen is 70 miles east of Lossiemouth. Both cities have major shopping facilities and cultural elements and are served by good rail and road links.
