On 23rd March, five teams from RAF Lossiemouth took part in a truly unique competition that would push both their physical and mental strength to the limit. The winners of the 'Tornado Pull' would be the fastest team to pull a Tornado GR4 aircraft, weighing a massive 17 tonnes, the distance of one mile, all to raise money for BBC Sport Relief.

Senior Aircraftman Andy McMahon, a member of 2622 (Highland) Squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment, based at RAF Lossiemouth, ran the Kinloss to Lossiemouth Half Marathon on Sunday 19 February 2012 breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest Half Marathon completed in a gas mask. Andy completed the course in 1 hour 27 minutes and 23 seconds breaking the previous record of 1 hour, 51 minutes and 31 seconds by 24 minutes and 08 seconds. Andy ran this Half Marathon in the newly issued General Service Respirator (GSR) which is now entering service with the Armed Forces.
“The GSR is fantastic and streets ahead of the S10 respirator, I think I was running at almost max pace, I have been training hard but I did not imagine I would go anywhere near as fast”.

Most of the time David Caddick, from Inverness, goes about his work as a business consultant advising companies, charities and voluntary organisations on organisational and management techniques, but during his spare time he is Squadron Leader Caddick MBE an officer in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force. Now working within 5 Force Protection Wing at RAF Lossiemouth his previous position was that of Officer Commanding 2622 (Highland) Squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment, a role which recently took him on operational service to Afghanistan.
