SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND FIRE (SHEF)

RAF Lyneham is committed to promoting a safe and healthy work environment for its employees and, as far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure its premises are safe and without risks to the environment and the health of employees, contractors and visitors.

All personnel, whilst at work, have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, and that of others whom may be affected by their acts or omissions, and to co-operate with the Station Commander’s organisation and arrangements on matters of safety, health, environment and fire.

Organisation and arrangements are in place to protect you whilst you are at work and you are to make yourself familiar with the Secretary of Defence Policy Statement and that of the Station Commander. Both policy statements are displayed on SHEF notice boards throughout the station.

The Station Commander and his executive officers are aware of the duty to consult with employees on matters of Health and Safety. The various SHEF committees provide the means for consultation, as does the involvement of line management, supervisors and workplace SHEF representatives.

Should you have any concerns over matters affecting your safety or the protection of the environment please discuss this with your line manager, SHEF representative or by contacting any of the following:

Station Health & Safety Officer Ext 6413

Station Deputy Health & Safety Officer Ext 7778

Station Environmental Protection Officer Ext 6779

Station Energy Manager Ext 6792

Station Fire Officer Ext 6193

Fire Safety Cell Ext 6130

A SHEF arrivals booklet is available for you to take away when you attend the Station Arrivals Brief. Please read this, and keep it for future reference as it contains valuable information to help you remain safe during your stay at RAF Lyneham.

A wide range of information on SHEF, including details of policy and available training courses, is available on the SHEF website. Access can be gained via the RAF Lyneham Homepage on the RAF Lyneham Intranet.
