Lyneham is a Wiltshire village with good local facilities, including shops, takeaways, primary schools and pre-schools. The village is convenient for larger local towns, which have excellent facilities. The local area has a wealth of attractions including Stonehenge, Wookey Hole and the spa town of Bath.

Lyneham has an excellent gym with modern equipment, and is accessible 24/7 to both personnel and dependants. There is also a bowling alley, station hairdresser, two coffee shops and a Spar shop.

Schools

Lyneham has one primary school. Secondary aged children generally attend school in Wootton Bassett (the local town). There are various local village primary schools and other secondary school in local towns. There are also a number of private schools within commuting distance.

Transport

Transport links are good. The M4 Junctions 16 or 17 are only six miles away in either direction. There is a regular bus service through the village that provides transport to both Swindon and Chippenham, which have mainline railway connections.

Shopping

Lyneham itself has a Tesco Metro and a local well stocked Co-op store. There is also a florist, thrift shop, charity shop, dry cleaners and a baby/child equipment and clothes shop. Nearby, the towns of Calne and Wootton Bassett have a Somerfields, a Sainsbury’s supermarket, Iceland and various general shops. Further a field (10 miles) Swindon is an excellent shopping centre with an array of high street stores and major supermarkets. It has a number of retail parks and also The Designer Outlet Village. Chippenham (10 miles) also has a good selection of shops and supermarkets and DIY stores.

Eating Out

Lyneham has a Chinese, Indian and kebab takeaway as well as a pizza shop (home delivery). There is also an Indian restaurant, and two public houses in the village that also serve food. On camp there is The HIVE coffee shop, which has a varied menu, and Albertos coffee bar, which also offers daytime food.
