31 Squadron Medal Presentation - 19 March 2010
On Friday 19th March 2010, 31 Squadron invited friends and family to their Medal Ceremony. Air Officer Commanding 1 Group, Air Vice-Marshall Greg Bagwell, CBE MSc RAF presented all personnel with their Operational Service Medal, Afghanistan and also took the opportunity to award specific commendations to engineering personnel for their outstanding efforts during the deployment.
31 Squadron recently handed over to IX (B) Squadron in Afghanistan and arrived back in the UK in early January from their 3 month tour of Operations. 31 Squadron conducted just under 400 sorties with a quarter of those involving Troops in Contact (TIC).
The Station Commander Group Captain ‘Rocky’ Rochelle said:
“I am proud of the Squadron and its personnel and I would like to thank the families and the local community for all of their continued support.”
Officer Commanding 31 Squadron, Wing Commander Ian ‘Windy’ Gale said:
‘It was fantastic that the Families are here to today to celebrate our safe return and to enjoy our historic and special ceremony together here on 31 Squadron at RAF Marham.’
