Forward Support Flight (FSF)
Forward Support Flight (FSF)
Forward Support Flight consists of 4 sections:-
• A4 Control (Engineering Operations)
• Engineering Publications & Records (EP & R)
• Forward Support Wing Training Cell (FSWTC)
• Visiting Aircraft Support Section (VASS)
Forward Support Flight is responsible for the day to day co-ordination of all engineering activities at RAF Marham, supporting Tornado operations world wide. The 4 sections within FSF are extremely varied in their duties and the supporting role they play in a very busy engineering environment.
A4 Control (Engineering Operations)
A4 Control (Engineering Opserations) acts as the hub of all aircraft engineering matters, giving 24/7 support to the Station and to Squadrons or aircraft that are deployed OOA. Their key role is to liaise between the Flying Squadrons, the station support flights, Combined Maintenance & Up-grade Program (CMU) and external sources. Very often acting as mediators, these experienced technicians ensure a smooth transition of resources and support to aircraft and crews, whether they are at home or abroad.
Engineering Plans and Records (EP&R)
The Section is subdivided into specialist cells with a diverse range of responsibilities. These include the tasking and control of all Tech Instructions, focal point for archiving and transfer of aircraft documentation, Marham fleet planning and allocation, control & progression of F760/F765 and Unit LITS Database Help Desk.
The Forward Support Wing Training cell (FSWTC)
The Cell delivers pre-employment and re-certification training to ground crew and aircrew on Flight Servicing procedures, weapon loading, aircraft handling and cockpit access Unit wide, plus the induction training for new arrivals to FSW. The Flight also mange two Weapon Load Training aircraft, the Units Engineering Authorisation database, plus Standards checks and any ad-hoc instructional responsibilities which provides constant new challenges.
Visiting Aircraft Support Section (VASS)
The Visiting Aircraft Support Section provides 24 hour handling and service support to visiting RAF, civilian and foreign military aircraft. In addition they are responsible for providing facilities and support to the Unit’s Continuous Charge Operations process.
