XIII SQN 'SCHOOL SPORTS DAY'

To engender some 'cross-pollination' between the engineers and the aircrew/ops, a 'School Sports Day' was arranged for Friday 07 August 2009. With the teams set up as 'The Old and Bold' (Execs and SNCOs); Aircrew Junta and The Engineers, battle commenced with the egg and spoon race. A tightly contested race saw the Junta team as the winners. The races that followed, 3-legged race; wheelbarrow; sack race and the skipping race, were all hotly contested and the results left the crown of Sports Day Champions wide open for the last race.

The last race consisted of 3 jockeys from each of the teams competing on their 'steeds' in a relay. The 'steeds' (space hoppers dressed in racing colours) performed magnificently in the slight shower that developed, making the going good to soft. The winners were the Junta but after a Stewards Enquiry, they were disqualified for fielding an ineligible jockey, which resulted in an overall win for the Engineers.

The day was topped off with a bbq and a few beers and the steeds were retired to stud.
