Background Information:
Lifeline 4 Chernobyl (L 4 C) has been set up by John and Pauline Rotman. In 2006 we were involved in collecting humanitarian aid to send to Belarus, for the children still affected 20 years on from the Chernobyl disaster. In November 2006, John took part in a convoy to take the aid to the children. Because of the people he met on this trip we knew we could not just walk away - more had to be done.

So - here we go again... With your help we are going to fill a 40 foot container with aid to take over in November 2007. There is a large demand for computers and monitors, but only modern late Pentium series, activity items - sports goods, toys, household goods, bedding, reading glasses, walking aids, wheelchairs, gardening equipment, wool, material bedding and towels.

These children are receiving Chemotherapy - childhood cancer is very high - their parents would have been in the original fallout.

Villagers have to collect water from the well, which is still radioactive.

There were 3 Reactors at the nuclear facility near Chernobyl that provided electricity for the region. During a poorly supervised safety experiment, one of the Reactors exploded, sending clouds of radioactive material to the North and West. In a few days, SIXTY times the amount of Radioactivity released by the Atomic Bomb dropped on Hiroshima fell on neighbouring countries, the bulk (70%) fell on Belarus.

Amongst the citizens that still live with intolerably high levels of radiation, are many thousands of children. The effort of the constant radioactive bombardment on the children manifests itself as Thyroid Cancer, Leukaemia, birth defects and genetic disorders. Thousands of children are put into homes and orphanages, either because their parents have died of a related illness, or have since committed suicide as they cannot cope with the fact they are "killing" their children just by feeding them.

Babies in these institutions have an allocation of 1 nappy per day!!!!!!!

Please help us to help them - apart from what has been listed we are also looking for:

Donations (It is going to cost £3,500 to get the lorry to these people).
New unwanted presents - we can use these for Bingo Prizes, being held at Hilgay Village Hall.

Do you have a small van you no longer use, that we could utilise for collections - would you be willing to sponsor this vehicle.

Are you an Accountant or Solicitor that would be willing to look after our books.

The list is endless - For more information contact Pauline or John
