Civil Servants visit RAF Marham to familiarise the role of a Main Operating Base (MOB) – October 2007
In October 2007 RAF Marham hosted a visit by 18 civil servants. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the visitors with the role of a Main Operating Base (MOB).
The visit started with a brief on the history, role, Station’s organization and what operations Station personnel are involved in. After the briefing a visit to the Tornado Maintenance School, where the Civil Servants were able to sit in mock cockpits and operate various instruments including starting up the PR199 engines of a Tornado.
After lunch the Survival Equipment section put on a display in the parachute packing hall and were briefed on the operating procedures of an ejection seat. The final part of the programme was a visit to a hangar, on the airfield, to see a GR4 Tornado close up and personal.
At the end of the tour Mrs Susan Welch from the Defence Flying Complaint Investigation Team said, “From a point of view that I deal with aircrew and flying complaints. It has been very useful to see the inside of a GR Tornado cockpit and the working of the various radars and cockpit data. The visit has been very enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable.”
