Visit to the TMS by the Purfleet Trust on 21 June 2007
On the 21 June 2007 staff and service users from the Purfleet Trust were welcomed to the Tornado Maintenance School (TMS) at RAF Marham by Squadron Leader Dunnett. Cpl Vicky Lockyer presented Mrs Heather Booker with a £200 cheque from the TMS Charities Fund.
Staff from the Purfleet Trust; Mrs Heather Booker, Mrs Katie Smith, Mr Rob Indge and service users were then given a guided tour around the school by Chief Technician John Salmon, Sergeant's Kev Hinchley, Pete Watkins, Gus Finlay and Cpl Vicky Lockyer. They were given a basic overview of the Tornado avionic, propulsion and airframe systems and even sat in the Tornado cockpit.
They all particularly enjoyed the Propulsion Training Rig where one of the visitors had a lesson on the engine start procedure.
The Purfleet Trust supported housing service is run from two sites in Kings Lynn; Merchants Terrace and Friars House. These are residential projects providing a safe environment to effectively support single homeless people. Merchants Terrace is an 18-bed hostel providing temporary accommodation for people aged 16 and over. There are 11 bed-sits and 7 flats. The flats provide a more independent living space without reducing the on-site 24/7 support provided.
Friars House comprises of 3 large flats, which are used for our more independent Service users to live in and they are supported in their accommodation by the staff based at Merchants Terrace.
Katie Smith - Supported Housing Manager said: "All the staff and residents from The Purfleet Trust's homeless hostel had a fantastic time when they visited RAF Marham's Tornado Maintenance School. The staff at the school were fabulous, they made our visit very enjoyable and a lot of fun. However, the icing on the cake was receiving a cheque for £200, which will be spent directly on homeless individuals who come to our door with nothing. I would like to thank the staff of the School for hosting us so well, for their generous donation and the ongoing support."
