Richard Burns Rally Poster 2010

The first RAF Marham Richard Burns Memorial Rally took place on the weekend of 13-14 September 2008, and the organisers hoped to raise a large sum of money for the RAF Benevolent Fund and The Richard Burns Foundation, whilst showing off the RAF to the general public and providing a recruitment opportunity.

Markko Martin competed and won the race in the 2008 Subaru Impreza World Rally Car. Over 100 cars competed on a multi-stage single surface (tarmac). A huge variety of rally cars turned up to compete: Subaru Imprezas, Mitsubishi Evos, Ford Escorts, Aston Martin DB9, Lancia Stratos and many others.

This is the 3rd year that the Richard Burns Memorial Rally and Family Fun Day has been hosted by RAF Marham.

Big show area with many motorsports and RAF displays, and other attractions.

Refreshments on sale throughout the day.

All proceeds will go to the Richard Burns Foundation, RAFA and the RAF Benevolent Fund

About the Event
The event is a multi-stage tarmac rally on the airfield surfaces, running up to 150 cars over the 2 days. Cars competing include: Subaru WRC S5s and S8s, Mitsubishi Evos, Audi Quattros, an Aston Martin, BMW M3s, Peugeot 205 GTis, Escort Mk2s and RS2000s and many others.

Spectators will be able to view the start, finish and service areas, plus various stages. Tickets cost £10 per adult (16 years and over). Children aged 16 and below go free when accompanied by a paying adult. Entry will be via crash gate 5 only. There will also be several displays available around the spectator area of motorsports and military interest - not to mention refreshments stands. Gates will open at 7am on each day and close at 3pm each day.

Volunteers are requested to help run and coordinate the event. There will be several VIP hosting jobs, which will involve hosting important people from the world of motorsports, and will allow access to the VIP viewing areas of the event. Help to the marshalling teams will also be required during set-up and close-down and the operation of the event, which will allow access to the areas of the track with the marshals. Volunteers are also requested to help run the spectator area and car parking and entry control aspects of the weekend, which will come with free access to the spectator area. All volunteers are invited to the event party on the Saturday evening where they will be fed and watered and entertained.

The weekend will bring a full rally to our doorstep, and whilst being a real draw to rallying fans, it offers an excellent opportunity for all family members to come and see an event that they might not have otherwise attended. At the very least, it should provide an excellent day out for the kids.

A word from the Sponsors
So, amazingly, here we go with the Hylton Gott Richard Burns Memorial Rally for the third year.

Looking back at last year my memories are of:

The many competitors, each with their own individual experiences, expressing absolute enjoyment of the event.

The Lancaster Bomber circling the service area, its awesome noise silencing every onlooker as it swept and incredible arc.

The smoothly organised “Red Arrows” photo shoot encompassing every competing crew – no mean feat!

The friendly “family” atmosphere that covered the whole event – especially the party on the Saturday evening.

And of course the event winner Kings Lynn Motor Clubs Ray Brammer, humbled and indeed almost tearful at bringing his car home 1st at last after some cruel luck in the proceeding season.

In fact it was without doubt the best event I have ever competed in and I’m proud to again sponsor the event. How can it be possible to have so much fun whilst raising money for two very worthy charities? I know the answer is in the organising team and thank them for their incredible efforts which continue throughout the year. Get your entry in now and I look forward to meeting you at the event, which I promise is a blast.
