Personnel from RAF Marham have taken part in the annual Trans-Norfolk Trail. The aim of this activity is to promote team building and leadership whilst raising money for charity. There were 30 personnel of all ranks taking part from all sections at RAF Marham and they had 7 support staff to look after them. The expedition lasted 4 days, from 10-13 Sep, virtually circumnavigating the county. The entrants cycled walked and canoed around the county. It was a gruelling event, which demands great stamina in all three disciplines. Day 1 was spent cycling 52 miles through the back roads to Hunstanton. On day 2 they had a 17-mile hike along Peddars Way and the North Norfolk Coastal Path, destination Burnham Market. Day 3 saw another long day in the bike saddle, cycling 45 miles from Sheringham to Great Yarmouth. Thursday gave a change in the mode of transport. This time the challenge was a 12-mile Canadian canoeing adventure from Rockland St. Mary on the Broads to the centre of Norwich along the River Yare.
The participants were then bussed back to RAF Marham to recover from their exertions.
This year the ‘Trail’ supported Shouldham Ward at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital Kings Lynn. WO Ian Nelson, organiser of Trans-Norfolk Trail said “ It is always a pleasure to support good causes especially closer to home. This is particularly poignant with regards to Shouldham Ward as they cared for one of my Sergeants, John Longstaff, through his long battle with cancer which sadly ended December last.”
