Air Traffic Control (ATC) - Flight Operations Assistant (FOA)
Job Description:
You will work with the FOAs and experience work in each of the main operating positions:
The Duty Driver
The switchboard and Approach Control Assistant
The Aerodrome Controller (ADC) Assistant
The Runaway Controller.
During your time in ATC you will be given the opportunity to sit with different controllers on each position. You will be able to watch and listen to them controlling aircraft and they will explain their job and how equipment works. We will also try to arrange visits to sections we work closely with such as Station Operations, the Met Office and the Fire Section.
Job Requirements:
Much time is spent watching, rather than doing, so student should have a lively outward going personality. Students will require some form of identification with them on arrival at the Unit and will be required to sign the Official Secrets Act. Community Support Squadron (Catering)
Job Description:
Employed in a wide range of tasks involved in catering for Station personnel. Tasks could include food preparation, cleaning down, laying tables for meals, serving of meals and basic cooking techniques and washing up. Specialist skills such as cake decorating, napkin folding, flambé work etc. could also be covered. Protective equipment and clothing can be provided in certain cases. IMPORTANT - DRESS If individual wishes to be employed in the Dining Room, they are to wear black skirt/trousers, white blouse/shirt and sensible black shoes. For work in kitchens - please endeavour to provide own apron/overall and wear sensible footwear. Long hair is to be tied back.

Tornado Components Squadron (Elect) (TCS (Elect))
Job Description:
The Tornado Components Squadron (Elect) (TCS (Elect)) Avionics Maintenance Facility is divided into various maintenance areas, which deal with specific ranges of equipment. These areas are: TORNADO FLIGHT SYSTEMS, TORNADO RADAR/COMMS, TORNADO RECONNAISSANCE SYSTEMS, TORNADO ECM, CANBERRA AVIONICS, AIRCRAFT ELECTRIC, CHAFF AND FLARE, LASER/TIALD, TMEC. These areas deal with all the electronic equipment's necessary to keep an aircraft flying. The tasks you will be involved in can vary from simple fuse changes to complex fault diagnosis and repair or replacement of printed circuit boards.
Note: Work experience personnel will not enter the following bays; Tornado Radar/Comms, Tornado ECM, Chaff and Flare and Laser/Tiald due to the nature of work carried out.

General Engineering Flight (GEF)
Job Description:
General Technician Ground Support Equipment tradesmen are employed on the maintenance of a wide variety of aircraft and general-purpose equipment. The range is quite extensive and includes engine driven generators and hydraulic trolleys used to power aircraft whilst on the ground, as well as air conditioning units, compressors and gas turbine starting trolleys. The range also includes aircraft arresting systems, lifting equipment and the likes of ground radar installations. Ground Support Equipment is vital to the efficiency of aircraft operations. The work involves a wide range of maintenance tasks that vary from daily inspections to major overhauls and fault diagnosis.

Mechanical Transport Maintenance Section (MTMS)
Job Description:
Vehicle mechanics (MT Technicians) in the Mechanical Transport Maintenance Section are employed on the second line maintenance and random rectification on all mechanical transport. Including complex special type vehicles and equipment in use at RAF Marham in accordance with current engineering practices, relevant maintenance schedules, publications and the Unit Quality statement, determining the serviceability of vehicle systems. Analysing malfunctions and performing systematic fault finding functions. All work is carried out in compliance with the current Health and Safety procedures

Job Description:
Concerned with photography of engineering subjects, group shots, individual portraits - identity and 'desk' or studio portraits, public relations, police originated work and any other type of photographic task called for by Station personnel. Also concerned with the processing and printing of wet film imagery and the capture of digital imagery plus the manipulation of the same. Print finishing and photo admin is also applicable. A Health & Safety brief will be given to all participants. All protective clothing is supplied where applicable

Tornado Engineering Squadron (TES/CMU)
Job Description:
An Aircraft Technician in Tornado Engineering Squadron undertakes periodic examinations of the aircraft structure, systems and components. The work includes replacement and testing of engines, auxiliary power units, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel components and flying control surfaces. The work is conducted in a hangar environment but some testing such as engine ground runs, fuel checks and aircraft ground movement may be carried out on a flight line or engine testing facility. The students will be under 100% supervision, and whenever possible will be undertaking 'hands on' basic engineering tasks. Students should be prepared to get their hands dirty in what is an exciting, high technology military environment.
Job Requirements:
Students with an ambition to follow a mechanical or engineering career will gain the most benefit from this placement. They will require some form of personal identification and they will be required to sign the Official Secrets Act. Tornado Maintenance School (TMS)
Job Description:
Based within the Tornado Aircraft pre-employment training environment for Royal Air Force engineering technicians. Students undertaking a work experience within the Tornado Maintenance School will be given the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of the working week, recognizing and utilizing the fundamentals and values of good time management, maintenance of working standards, teamwork and individual responsibilities. Working within three teams throughout the period, (information technology, graphics and rig maintenance) the student will face many practical challenges in providing ongoing technical support to a busy engineering based workforce. From daily use of PC through IT administration and 3D graphics, to extensive preparation and operation of engineering training systems and Tornado F3 training aircraft

No prior engineering or IT knowledge is required. Students who are flexible and willing to approach both the easy and the challenging tasks equally and wish to be part of the team should consider this placement. Job Description:
Maintenance, repair and testing of the Rolls-Royce RB199 engine as fitted to the Tornado aircraft to overhaul standard. The duties range from examination for defects and replenishments to deep strip and testing of complete engines on the test bed. Protective equipment and clothing are provided in all appropriate cases. Students will be undertaking 'hands on' engineering tasks, working with 100% Supervision. Hopefully a visit to one of the squadrons.

These tasks are carried out in a Hardened Aircraft Shelter (HAS) environment. Students will be carrying out basic 'hands on' engineering tasks, working with various trades within a HAS and will be 100% supervised at all times. They will also get to see an aircraft 'crew-in' and post flight recovery.

Job Description:
All students will be observers within the various bays and sub-sections of Survival Equipment where they will observe the ongoing maintenance, modifications and rectification of parachute assemblies, life rafts and Aircrew Equipment Assemblies used on both the Tornado and Canberra Aircraft. There are possibilities of also visiting other sections for half days such as the armament sections or Air Traffic Control. If the opportunity arises the student may assist in basic tasks, supervised.
