THE MARHAM FIRST SCHOOL - SCHOOL OPENS REFURBISHED CLASSROOMS
January 2007

On a crisp afternoon the Station Commander, Group Captain Phil Osborn, in the presence of the Headteacher, Mrs Jan Duffill, was invited to open two newly refurbished, modern, well equipped and spacious classrooms, for the two Reception Classes at Marham Airfield First School. To prepare for the event, the children had each made a cut-out of themselves and these "works of art" had been pasted together to make a 'Chain of People'. This chain was hung in front of the door and the cutting of it signified the opening of the new facility. On formally opening the refurbished classrooms, Group Captain Osborn said "It is was both a real pleasure to be invited to open the outstanding refurbished Reception Classrooms at the Airfield School and an honour to be asked to cut the 'Chain of People'. RAF Marham really values it's connections with the local community and our close links with the excellent Marham Airfield First School is just one example of this essential relationship. The Reception project, ably led by the Headteacher Mrs Jan Duffill, represents an exceptional team effort from teachers, parents, local industry and governors, many of whom are RAF Marham personnel. An amazing effort from all concerned".

Also in attendance were the School Governors, Mr Allan Bradley, Chairman of Marham Parish Council, Mr Andrew Grant from Mansell Builders, Wayne Skipper the Architect and various representatives from Marham Village playground and The Rainbow Child Care Centre at Upper Marham. The children have dedicated areas for computers, role-play and a wet activity area which has sand, clay and water. One of the striking features of the refurbishment has been installation of a French Window that opens straight on the reception classes' dedicated outdoor play area. After the opening the children entertained their guests with songs and joining in the Tea Party.
