DOWNHAM MARKET RAFA CELEBRATES ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A LUNCH AT THE CROWN HOTEL - 13 January 2007
The 60th Anniversary Lunch of the Downham Market RAFA was held in the Crown Hotel Downham Market on the 13th January 2007. The Branch was officially formed on the 14th January 1947 with the inaugural meeting being held at the Crown Hotel. The Branch was fortunate in having three of the founder members, Bill Doy, Lorna Horton and Estelle Crump attending the lunch.
The guest of honour was Air Marshal Philip Sturley, the President of the Royal Air Forces Association. Other guests were Air Commodore Bob McAlpine and his wife Rachel, a previous Station Commander of RAF Marham and also Branch President, Group Captain Phil Osborn and his wife Sara the current Station Commander and Branch President.
A total of 52 Branch Members attended, including Anne Robinson, whose father was the first Branch Chairman.
At the conclusion of the meal speeches were made by Air Commodore McAlpine and Group Captain Osborn. Air Marshal Sturley gave an update on the way forward for the Association.
