Occupants of all Service Single Accommodation (SSA) will be aware that the project to install Sky TV capability into all Barrack Blocks and Messes at RAF Marham is now nearing completion. This project is being seen as a major community support initiative, which has taken a year of negotiations before finally being agreed and installed.
Occupants in the past have received poor, or non existent TV reception from the basic analogue aerials. Therefore, this new option has been seized upon from the outset and almost 150 personnel have already signed up to receive at least the minimum Sky package. However, the Sky Sales Teams have been more surprised by the take-up of the full High Definition (HD) package which is a relatively new innovation from Sky.
Part of the negotiations with the Sky Sales Team have concluded with benefits offered such as free installation, the ability to suspend the contract in case of deployment (ie contact suspended for 4 months and therefore contact agreed over 16 months) and also, no one-off £25 fee for those wishing to connect without a telephone line (this is a deduction by Sky under normal circumstances).
All rooms have been wired for all packages (ie the ability to receive HD signal). However, separate telephone lines will be required for Sky+ and HD. In addition, personnel can opt for a basic digibox which is free (on take up of a basic contract), or those wishing for a Sky+ box can get one discounted down to £99 or £199 for Sky HD. From 6 May 07 the HD box will rise to £299 for new customers. However, the above price of £199 will still be offered to Marham personnel until such time as the existing stock runs out. The most basic contract which offers over 100 channels of TV, music and radio, costs only 49 pence per day.
The Sky sales team will continue to visit the Junior Ranks’ Mess on a two weekly basis over the next couple of months. However, should visiting them prove difficult, the Contracts Team can be contacted as follows: M A Riley Digital Services Tel (01604) 832143 or 07789 758780. The benefits as detailed above can only be obtained through this authorised contractor.
