RAF Marham Track Day April 2007

Track Day 2007

RAF Marham Track Day 14 and 15 April 2007

I’m sure most of you heard the excessive noise coming from the airfield last weekend and may have wondered what all the fuss was about. Well, it was the 4th RAF Marham charity driving weekend for which the airfield was converted into a 3 mile racing circuit for some of the finest road cars in the country.

The Event has grown since its conception in October 2005 and now attracts people from all over the country to explore the limits of their vehicles in a safe, controlled environment. Cars from invited forums such as the Lamborghini Owners’ Club, Ferrari Owners’ Club and Piston Heads noisily descended on the Main Gate early on a foggy Saturday and Sunday, but the mist soon cleared and made way for an outstanding weekend of circuit driving. Every conceivable type of car from 60’s classics to fire-spitting super cars went on to enjoy the 3 mile track encompassing the main runway and coned corner complexes. No accidents or incidents occurred throughout the weekend even though speeds approaching 200mph were achieved in some of the cars.

A large number of station volunteers kindly gave up their time to ensure safety was maintained, most of who found plenty of time to enjoy the track as passengers in some of the participating Lamorghinis and Ferraris. In all, the Event raised £16,000 for the Station Charity Fund, a major beneficiary of which is the Make a Wish Foundation. The organiser, Flt Lt Keith Watson, would like to thank everyone who helped over the weekend, in particular Cpl Denman, Denise Foggett, Jan Gault, First Response, Police Flt, Accounts Flt, MT, Catering Sqn, Photographic Section and VAS.

The next event will be early September 2007 with a couple of top speed days in between, the organiser therefore apologises for the noise in advance.
