Event 6
NHC REDBELT RUMBLE
11/11/07
Marham Judo Club had an early start as they travelled to High Wycombe on Sunday, leaving the Sandringham Centre at 06:00hrs. We didn’t get lost, we just had a few diversions around and about Heathrow Airport, which was not the fault of the driver but Neil the navigator and a very faulty Sat Nav system.
The club entered four promising players for this event; Colin McCullium, Megan Taylor, Rebecca Innes and James Driver.
First up was Collin who was still recovering from the 3 hour journey. Colin was a little overwhelmed in his first fight with what was going on and was pushed to the floor and held down by the other competitor. In his second fight he was more prepared and tried lots of attacks, he lost this fight but showed guts and determination.
Second up Megan. Megan had 3 fights in all. She won two and lost one. She worked extremely hard in all three fights. The ones that she won, she used great take backs and followed though with some excellent ground work. Well done Megan. Gold Medal awarded.
Third up was Rebecca Innes. This was Rebecca first competition. She was a little overwhelmed in her first fight as her competitor was very aggressive. She pushed Rebecca down to the floor and held her Kasa gatme. This can be a little stressful the first time you are held down and Rebecca was not the first to be over come with emotions. This only made Rebecca more determined to win the next two fights.
In all Rebecca won two fights and lost two. This was the gutsiest performance I have seen in a long time... Silver Medal awarded.
Fourth up was James. James was on a mission to destroy in this competition. He even wore the knees out of judo trousers in ground work. He performed excellent judo quickly dispatching his opponents with style. Well done James a very well deserved Gold medal was won.
Well done all. A brilliant performance that has us smiling.
Event 6
AJA
Derek Skipper Memorial.
17/11/07
This was a good turn out by Marham Judo Club, with sixteen members of the club competing. AJA competitions are weight banded not aged banded or belt banded which can be quite challenging. If a player competes against an older more experienced player it can be a much harder challenge. At the competition there was also a club present from Holland which is a country that produces experienced players through incorporating judo as part of their school syllabus. Marham Judo Club did exceptionally well at this event and some excellent judo was delivered that day.
The results were as follows;
Gold medals were won by; Emily Driver and Elinor Glynn.
Silver medals were won by; Jenna- Jaye Nicholson, Collin McCalluim and Emma Turner.
Bronze medals were won by; Daniel Campbell, Rebbeca Innes, Ruth Innes, Megan Taylor, Shannon Taylor and James Driver.
Although not all competitors came away with medals there were some exceptional performances by all on the day. Emily Apps achieved a brilliant Ippon . Ally deserves a medal for standing and competing against his player who was from Holland and he was extremely big. He was extremely brave. Chris demonstrated some fantastic techniques and I know that he will achieve medals in the future. Sophie went out there fighting; using left hand throws which was great. Matthew also gave a gutsy performance.
A big well done to all those who competed. As I always say just standing out on that mat competing takes a lot of courage and I am proud of you all each and every time you perform.
Event 7
BJA (British Judo Association)
Junior Nationals.
18/11/07
Jenna- Jaye Nicholson was the only competitor able to compete at this event. This event enables the best in the country to fight against each other in their separate weight groups. Jenna-Jaye fought in the -32Kg section. Jenna- Jaye did exceptionally well, wasting no time at all she threw her first competitor for Ippon and beat the second competitor with a Yuko score. The final saw all competitors being paraded in the centre of the hall and then the finalists of each weight group fighting one after the other. The tension was high. Jenna-Jaye was winning the contest 60 seconds into the fight with a Yuko score and dominating the fight. Jenna-Jaye then threw her opponent, who fell awkwardly and damaged her toe, which meant the girl had to withdraw.
Jenna- Jaye has now become the youngest Eastern Area Champion. This has been a culmination of five years hard training. Jenna-Jaye has won a medal in all the major junior competitions that she has entered and has worked extremely hard to achieve this success. Her competitions have taken her to France and Belgium at an early age and have meant many hours of travelling. She is a child who likes to fight and enjoys the pressure. As her dad I am very proud of what she has achieved. I have seen her work extremely hard against some very tough opponents. Well done Jenna-Jaye. Also this has meant both my children have an achieved a medal at the junior nationals of which I extremely proud of. I must say a big thank you to Kumo Judo Club and specifically the Oates family for their time and support towards helping my children achieve this success.
