What is the SSAFA Personal Support & Social Work Service?
• We are an independent civilian welfare organization
• Funded by the MOD
• Professionally trained staff*
• We provide a voluntary social welfare service to all in-Service personnel and their families
• We are accessible - more than 50% of people self refer
• Sufficient time is given to meet the needs of the individual
• An appointment can normally be given within one week (often earlier)

Confidentiality
• Our service is confidential
• Personal information is not discussed with the RAF unless the Service User gives permission
• We are located outside the ‘wire’ which helps with privacy.

What help do we offer?

Both direct work and information sharing on a wide range of matters including:
• Relationship work
• Practical advice on Separation & Divorce
• Mediation
• Emerging stress & anxiety
• Housing
• Children’s issues
• Loss & Bereavement
• Sign-posting to external helping agencies
• Offer specialist help in areas of fostering, adoption and children with additional needs
• SSAFA Community volunteers

Working with the RAF

We work closely with individuals and the RAF to prepare reports for:
• Compassionate postings, leave & discharge
• Preferential treatment
• RAF Benevolent Fund applications
• DE Housing issues
• Summary Justice reports
• Long-term Sickness & Absence
