Timeline - Major George Dyson Takes the Reins
Major George Dyson assumed the role of Organising Director of Music following the departure of Walford Davies. He too was a distinguished musician who was later to be knighted and finished his long musical career as Director of the Royal College of Music. What was of great importance in 1919 was that he had already served for four years with the Royal Fusiliers and was therefore very familiar with Service procedures. This was to be of great benefit as he prepared the case for the establishment of Bands and the papers that he submitted on this were realistic and well presented.
While he was working at this major task he found time to complete and publish the official set of RAF Trumpet Calls and to add the trio section to the RAF March Past.
