The RAF Squadronaires in Jersey

The RAF Squadronaires in Jersey
The Royal Air Force Squadronaires returned to Jersey in September to perform at the Royal Opera House in St Helier.

It had been 5 years since the last visit to perform in conjunction with the Islands Battle of Britain commemorations. As we set up the staging and checked sound levels for the evening concert, we were serenaded with the sound of aircraft which were part of a huge free air display in the sunny skies above St Brelades Bay.

Our two concerts went down extremely well with our unique eclectic mix of swing and big band jazz, most of our audience having enjoyed the air show in the afternoon. In addition to our resident ‘local lad’ Sgt Lee Vivian, who was playing in his home town
(with his Mum leading the audience in applause and cheering!) we were blessed to be joined on stage by the superb local vocalist Tony Gardiner and the melodic sounds of Brian White on Trumpet.

In addition to the concert performances at the Opera House, the pupils of Beaulieu School were host to a few musicians lead by Sgt Andrew Hooley. Andy lead a workshop with the pupils sitting along side the Squadronaires this culminated in a lunchtime performance to a very enthusiastic audience of pupils and teachers.

The Royal Air Force Association collected £1770 over the two concerts. On our return to RAF Uxbridge our engagement coordinator had received a request for us to return in 2010 to perform more concerts and workshops.
