The Armed Forces Muslim Association (AFMA) held its annual Eid gathering in the Officers Mess at RAF Northolt just before the Christmas/New Year break. Muslim personnel of all ranks and their families joined the Imam to the Armed Forces, Imam Hafiz, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir David Richards, the Air Member for Personnel, Air Marshal Andy Pulford and Rear Admiral Amjad Hussain, to celebrate Eid. Other guests included the Chaplain General The Venerable Stephen Robbins, Lord and Lady Sheikh, and Dr Joel Hayward, the Dean of the RAF College Cranwell.
The guests were welcomed to RAF Northolt by Station Commander Group Captain Tom Barrett, who spoke of the importance of Muslim personnel and how they were representative of all that was best in the modern armed forces. Following a recitation from the Koran and a prayer the attendees moved through to the dining room for a curry supper and a series of speeches from other invited guests, including Lord Sheikh and Imam Hafiz.
AFMA provides mutual support and encouragement to its members and is open to all Muslim personnel (regular or reservists) of any rank, who are serving in any branch of the armed forces. Anyone wanting more information should contact Imam Asim Hafiz on firstname.lastname@example.org or 020 7414 3252.
