Demand for the Tornado GR4’s Raptor capability resulted in increased tasking to support Op HAMKARI in the vicinity of Kandahar. Additionally, the GR4 also providing Raptor imagery to support UK Task Force Helmand ground forces, conducting Counter-IED operations in the Nad-e Ali district.

Of note, Tornado GR4’s were scrambled to support Troops in Contact (TiC) when a US patrol was hit by an IED. The GR4’s providing armed over-watch of the patrol, enabling the safe recovery of all personnel as well as the damaged vehicle.
