VC10 refuelling aircraft have predominantly supported US Navy carrier-based aircraft this week, which in turn were providing Close Air Support (CAS) across Afghanistan. In one mission, a F18 aircraft was having difficulties transferring fuel from its external fuel tanks, meaning it would not be able to reach the carrier without repeated additional refuels. The VC10 accompanied the aircraft back towards the carrier, continuing to provide fuel as and when required until the F18 recovered safely.
