During the routine support and refuel of Italian AMX aircraft, a 902 EAW based VC10 tanker, received a request for the aircraft to be immediately re-tasked to refuel a French Mirage supporting a Troops in Contact (TIC) in Regional Command (East). On completion, the VC10 made haste to return to its scheduled refuelling of the Italian aircraft, which in turn then went on to provide CAS for a TIC in Northern Afghanistan, close to the Turkmenistan border.
