The VC10 aircraft of 101 Sqn provided refuelling support throughout the week for Op HERRICK sorties over Afghanistan. Inclement weather however, did prevent one or two sorties from achieving full mission success. The VC10 aircraft still delivered over 150T of fuel, enabling numerous coalition aircraft to provide air effects including Close Air support (CAS), Tactical Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare support. In addition, the refuelling of UK Tornado GR4’s enabled extended mission tasking for the Tactical Reconnaissance of compounds and route scanning for potential IED locations.
