Skills for life

The skills you gain as a member of the RAF Reserves will be with you forever. From valuable personal skills to practical qualifications, you’ll constantly be adding to your personal and professional skill set.

Build your confidence and people skills

As a Reservist, you’ll notice an increase in confidence and resilience, and develop a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. Meanwhile, our team-based focus will help you strengthen skills such as leadership, communication and team-working. Attributes like these can help you back into employment if you’ve been away from work.

Get practical skills and qualifications

You’ll gain practical skills such as first aid, while weapons training and parade drill will help you develop co-ordination and an attention to detail – particularly valuable if you operate machinery or work with technology in your day job. As a Reservist, you will also have access to the Defence Learning Portal and opportunities for self-study, in support of both your Reservist role and your civilian job.

Above all, you’ll become more self-confident, adaptable and better able to cope under pressure – helping you deal with whatever challenges life throws at you.
