Travel

Being a member of the RAF Reserves gives you opportunities to travel – often to places you just couldn’t get to any other way.

Serve overseas

You’ll be mobilised overseas at least once during your five-year contract. It’s an opportunity to play a vital role in defence on expeditionary operations. And the chances are, once you’ve done it the first time, you’ll be counting the moments until you get to go again.

“Going to Afghanistan as a nurse was one of the main reasons I joined. There’s nothing like the feeling that you’re saving lives and helping the troops to do their job.”

Flight Lieutenant Laura Hodson, Nursing Officer

Train overseas

Depending on your squadron and role, you may well get the opportunity to train overseas as part of your 15-day annual continuous training, for example in Cyprus, the Falkland Islands or Europe.

Adventure training overseas

Adventure training is a way of life for the RAF and RAF Reserves. It’s challenging, enjoyable and encourages teamworking. There’s also no better way to blow the cobwebs away than to join (or even organise) a squadron expedition to somewhere overseas, such as Ascension Island, the Falkland Islands, Cyprus or somewhere closer to home.
