Social life & friendships

All work and no play? Not likely…

“You’ll meet some great people from all walks of life… and keep them as friends for life.”

Training to be a vital team player in the RAF Reserves is only part of what you do; the social life and the gritty ‘work hard, play hard’ philosophy is a great part of what being in the Reserve Forces is all about.

Exhilaration, adrenaline, sweat and laughter

All squadrons organise expeditions and adventure training. Reserves take part in skiing, sailing, climbing, canoeing, white water rafting or trekking. You will find it exhilarating – guaranteed.

Pursue a hobby with the professionals

Then there are RAF clubs and facilities for just about any activity at any level you might want to pursue, from skydiving to scuba diving.

“It was great keeping in touch with new colleagues outside of the Reserves.”

Social life on another level

And you will never be short of a memorable social life. When it comes down to it, it’s the people you meet in the RAF Reserves that make your time special. Reserves tell us time and again that it’s about the great mix of people from all walks of life, from wildly different backgrounds but very much on the same wavelength, united by a common desire to serve.

“For the first time in my life, I really feel part of something worthwhile.”

Everyone takes part

You’ll be taking part in the unique traditions and culture of the RAF and the Reserves, in regular social events from barbeques to formal balls, as well as ceremonial duties. You can invite your family to many events and share the good times with them too.
