More about this squadron
1359 Flight has been known by several different names during its relatively short history. It was in 1994 that the Hercules force decided that there might be a need for Reservist aircrew. Nine Hercules officers were trained and set up as a squadron at RAF Brize Norton as part of a three-year trial. When the Hercules Operational Conversion Unit was disbanded in 2001, the squadron received the name used today.
Roles and specialist skills
Because of the very high cost of aircrew training, we are not able to recruit members who are not qualified (or very recently qualified) on current air transport or air refuelling aircraft types.
This limits us to recruiting from retiring regular Service personnel.
