Roles and specialist skills
The roles we offer are mainly for medical professionals seeking a new and different challenge. In all of them, you will use and add to your existing medical skills.
Depending on the specialty you bring, you will conduct a range of important treatments:
- As a GP or nurse, you will give medical advice, managing sick and injured personnel so that they can return to duty as soon as possible.
- As a surgeon or anaesthetist, you will provide life-saving treatment to injured individuals.
- As a dentist, you will provide primary dental care within a deployed operating base.
Recent deployments
The majority of our Reservists were mobilised during the early phase of Operation Telic in Iraq.
The first group of Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) staff went to Kuwait to set up a two-bed ITU holding facility attached to an aeromedical evacuation facility at Kuwait International Airport. They were then joined by 34 Field Hospital in Basra and worked both in Accident & Emergency and ITU with colleagues from all three Services.
The second group went to Cyprus where they worked in the Princess Mary’s Hospital to support existing staff. They then moved to Al Ahmara to work with the Army in a small field hospital.
