08/09 - Academy v Navy
RAF U23 Academy Inter-Services Vs The Royal Navy - Sat 22nd Nov 08
After the defeat against the army the U23 Royal AirForce Academy side had a lot to play for in their second Interservice Match. However, for the first 10 minutes the Royal Navy dominated the break downs and set pieces in the end leading to a forced penalty which was happily converted by the RN.
The RAF were always quick to clear their lines and counter-attack. However, pressure through some good drives around the fringes by the RN front 5 eventually told and their fullback went over for a try. Following the first try, the RAF came back stronger, forcing the Navy defence to work very hard. This effort was finally rewarded with a succesful penalty awarded to the RAF. HT: 8 RN RAF 3.
The Navy came out in the 2nd half with all guns blazing scoring 2 quick tries, the first after an RAF mistake straight from the KO when the RN outpaced the cover defence to touch down near the posts. The second came 5 minutes later when the RAF failed to deal with a chipped over the top ball leading to the RN scoring and converting another try.
The RAF woke up and for the next 25 minutes laid siege to the Navy's try-line, resulting in 2 yellow cards for penalties conceded by the RN, during this time the RAF scored a well deserved try.
Late on the Navy scored another try which finally ended the hopes of the RAF team.
Final Score RN 27 - RAF 8.
