1011 - Dev Vs RS
RAFRU(W) Development Vs The Royal Signals
After a blazing inaugural match, RAFRU(W) Dev had momentum on their side as they took to the field against The Royal Signals on 27 Oct in Aldershot. Unfortunately, The Royal Signals couldn't field a front row, so scrums were uncontested from the off.
RAFRU Dev quickly took possession and some storming support play, from the back line, helped Underwood over in the corner. The Royal Signals continued to fight but with little possession, RAFRU Dev continued to power forward. By half time further tries from Glanville; Wilkinson (twice); Sluggard and Williams had all scored. Scrum Half, Halworth, keen to demonstrate her flexibility within the team, converted two from challenging angles.
Team talks over, The Royal Signals started the second half with great drive, taking the ball on and pushing towards the line, only some concentrated defending (and the boot of Underwood), prevented The Royal Signals from being rewarded for their effort. Two quick tries for RAFRU Dev, from Muir and Armstrong, put the game beyond reach. Still Royal Signals did not give up – battling on towards the final whistle and only conceding one further try (Slugaard); The final score was 49-0.
With 5 players new to the RAF set-up (Sanderson, Yarsley, Lightowler, Broom, C Williams), 3 of whom had never played before, RAFRU Dev once again demonstrated the growing Women's player base. Thanks must go to Richmond RFC for once again loaning RAFRU Dev a strip, and the expertise of Emma Croker as forwards coach for the day.
