Exercise TRANSGLOBE, will be a major, Tri-Service Adventurous Sail Training Exercise which will take place from 11 July 2009 through to 03 July 2010. The aim of the exercise is to develop the personal qualities and promote ethos essential to members of HM Armed Forces, Reserve Forces, the UOTC and specially selected members of the Cadet Forces, through adventurous sail training in a service environment.
The Joint Service Adventure Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) will deploy three Challenge 67ft Sail Training. Craft (STC) from Gosport on a year long circumnavigation of the globe, to include participation in the Sydney to Hobart Race in December 2009 and the Antigua Race week in Apr 2010. Each STC will be allocated to the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force respectively. Details of the legs can be found here.
Exercise TRANSGLOBE has the been endorsed as a Major Adventurous Training project by each of the Service Assistant Chiefs. It is fully supported by the each of the respective Sailing Associations; Royal Navy sailing Association (RNSA), Army Sailing Association (ASA) and the Royal Air Force Sailing Association (RAFSA).
Each of the Armed Services will be allocated one of the identically equipped JSASTC Challenge 67ft STC (CH67), and the respective individual Service will be responsible for providing the crew for each of the legs. All circumnavigation legs will be conducted as AT exercises and will be cruises in company in the spirit of Corinthian inter-service competition with the emphasis on safety, seamanship and teamwork, or participation in International Offshore race events (Legs 6 and 10).
